Official description
Description
The Public Utilities Department (PUD) currently captures methane gas from wastewater treatment facilities at Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant (PLWTP) and Metro Biosolids Center (MBC) using existing staff and infrastructure. This gas is produced by anaerobic digesters that break down organic material, creating methane as a byproduct. The captured methane is used to power plant equipment, added to the natural gas grid, or flared off if not used.
