This indicator tracks the percentage of electricity delivered to San Diego homes and businesses that comes from emissions-free sources — including renewables like solar, wind, and geothermal, as well as hydroelectric and nuclear power.
San Diego electricity customers are served by San Diego Gas & Electric, San Diego Community Power, or — primarily for commercial and industrial customers — a competitive energy provider of their choice ("Direct Access"). The chart shows the emissions-free percentage for each provider separately, as well as the combined total. Because each provider delivers different amounts of electricity, the total is a weighted average rather than a simple average. Providers that deliver more electricity have a greater influence on the total.
