The City's ongoing efforts focus on updating community plans, zoning codes, and policies to promote neighborhood improvement, affordable housing, and decreased reliance on personal vehicles.

Initiatives like Blueprint SD aim to guide growth in a climate-friendly manner, emphasizing land use strategies and transportation policies to cut emissions. Corridor-specific plans and studies further enhance land use integration with active transportation and transit access, aligning with the city's Climate Action Plan goals. Adoption of initiatives like Complete Communities prioritizes housing near transit and enhances pedestrian, cyclist, and transit infrastructure, contributing significantly to emissions reduction.
