Official description

Capture landfill methane gas emissions
(Full action name in the CAP)
The City of San Diego Environmental Services Department (ESD) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of landfill gas collection systems, gas migration monitoring networks, and groundwater monitoring networks at landfills managed by the City. ESD has met and exceeds a 92% continuous operation rate of City landfill gas collection systems. Continuous operation of landfill gas collection systems directly correlates to the capture of methane from decomposing waste. The methane captured at Miramar Landfill is then used to provide fuel to power electrical generators at the Metropolitan Biosolids Center and North City Water Reclamation Plant.
