Official description

Incorporate trees and additional cooling features such as innovative shade designs, water features, and cooling centers at parks, with a concentration in Communities of Concern
(Full action name in the CAP)
The Department of Parks & Recreation in San Diego is committed to improving park infrastructure, promoting community health, and increasing climate resilience by incorporating cooling features and trees into parks, with a focus on Communities of Concern. The 2021 Parks Master Plan recognizes the importance of shade and other cooling features, integrating them into various policies. Additionally, the plan introduces the 'Recreational Value-Based Park Standard,' prioritizing features like park size, recreation opportunities, and overall value. By incorporating trees and cooling features into park scoring, the City can address needs and enhance park amenities. Currently, the department is updating the Consultant's Guide to Park Design and Development to align with the Parks Master Plan.
