Official description

Partner with Micromobility Operators to optimize the number of scooters available in mobility hubs and/or near transit
(Full action name in the CAP)

The Shared mobility devices (SMD) are dockless bikes and scooters that may be rented by the public via a mobile application. The SMD Program is managed by the Sustainability & Mobility Department and contracts directly with operators to provide SMD services in the City. The department coordinates closely with operators and the community to ensure compliance with regulations, monitor service deployment, evaluate program impacts, and support equitable access to these shared devices.

Shared Mobility Devices must be parked in designated corrals. The expansion of the SMD corral network is an on-going and data-driven process. Corral staging prioritizes implementation in locations in close proximity to existing bike facilities, transit stops, areas with limited parking, and communities of concern. To date, there are approximately 950 corrals within the City, additional locations are planned and being coordinated with new bike facilities and resurfacing projects within the City.

Description

Ongoing tasks include:

  • Expand availability of SMDs (new corrals, equity goals, transit connections, adjacent multimodal infrastructure, etc.)
  • Increase device deployments (e-bikes and scooters)
  • Continue monitoring of compliance with the contracts and Municipal Code
  • Implement Micromobility ridership and safety campaigns
  • Promote operator-led events, local partnerships, distribution/deployment equity
