Official description
Description
In 2023, the City replaced its Transit Priority Area definition in the Land Development Code with a new definition, the Sustainable Development Area. The previous Transit Priority Areas meant that only properties within a half-mile radius of a major public transit stop, measured in a straight line and disregarding barriers like canyons or freeways were eligible for incentive programs. This could lead to unrealistic distances for accessing transit.
The new Sustainable Development Area definition eliminates the "as the crow flies" measurement and instead allows local incentive programs within a 1-mile walking distance from a major public transit stop. This change ensures that developments are truly accessible to transit. Properties within these areas are now eligible for the City's local incentive programs aimed at facilitating the construction of more homes near transit hubs.
The City remains committed to developing programs and incentives that encourage transit use within these designated areas.
