Official description

Facilitate partnerships with universities and colleges with goal of student walk/ride/transit use well-above citywide goals
(Full action name in the CAP)

Description

The City seeks to establish and strengthen partnerships with universities and colleges to support alternative transportation options for students. This may include collaborating on marketing and educational campaigns to expand awareness of City and university transportation options, support transportation demand management offerings, and evaluate pilot opportunities.

UC San Diego offers a comprehensive range of transportation options and programs tailored for its students, faculty, and staff, aiming to make commuting both convenient and sustainable. A prominent feature is the campus shuttle service, which provides free, frequent transportation around the campus and to key off-campus locations. For those preferring to cycle, the university supports a robust bike-sharing program and maintains well-designed bike paths throughout the campus. To promote eco-friendly commuting, UC San Diego also participates in regional transit programs, offering discounted public transportation passes to faculty and staff for MTS and NCTD transit services. Additionally, all UCSD students receive a transit pass (U-Pass) for MTS and NCTD services, which is funded by student fees. Carpooling is encouraged through ride-sharing platforms and reserved parking spaces. Additionally, the university has invested in electric vehicle charging stations, underlining its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. These varied transportation options not only facilitate easy movement within and around the campus but also reflect UC San Diego's dedication to sustainable and accessible transportation solutions for its community.

San Diego State University (SDSU) offers an expansive array of transportation options and programs for students, faculty, and staff, focusing on accessibility, convenience, and sustainability. Recognizing the importance of public transportation, the university is conveniently located near trolley and bus lines, with many students, faculty, and staff taking advantage of discounted transit passes. Carpooling is facilitated through dedicated programs, helping to reduce the number of vehicles on campus and promoting a greener commute. Additionally, SDSU has made significant strides in accommodating electric vehicles, with several charging stations available on campus. For those who prefer cycling, SDSU provides bike infrastructure including a network of painted bike paths throughout the campus and secure bike facilities. These transportation options not only ease the daily commute for the university community but also align with SDSU's commitment to environmental responsibility and reducing its carbon footprint.
