All San Diego Community Power (SDCP) customers are enrolled in PowerOn service by default. Using this service means that over 50% of the electricity you use is generated from renewable sources. Customers can choose to upgrade to Power100, which means that 100% of the electricity you use is renewable and carbon-free.
The City of San Diego has already upgraded to Power100 at all of its municipal facilities and encourages residents to do the same. The City's goal is that 100% of SDCP customers upgrade their service to Power100 by 2035.
For more information about the Power100 plan, including how to upgrade your own account, please visit the SDCP website.
In May 2025, San Diego Community Power finalized contracts for two large solar projects: one in Kern County and one at the California-Nevada border. The projects, Pelican’s Jaw and Purple Sage, place the city on a trajectory to achieve citywide renewable energy by 2035. They are estimated to provide a total of one-fifth of SDCP’s 100% renewable energy portfolio by 2035. The contracts provide SDCP with community benefit funds that benefit SDCP customers. The local clean energy industry will also benefit from the creation of hundreds of temporary construction jobs and several permanent jobs.
Increased renewable energy generation allows more customers to opt-in to completely carbon-free energy. It also promotes the overall adoption of renewable energy technologies, such as decarbonization retrofits and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. Building EV infrastructure is an essential step in leading the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, notably in transportation where there is the greatest potential for greenhouse gas reductions.
