Official description

Amend the building code to require charging stations for electric bicycles.
(Full action name in the CAP)

Description

In October 2022, an amendment was made to Section §143.1410 of the San Diego Municipal Code regarding mobility and land use regulations. The amendment mandates that a minimum of 50 percent of both residential and non-residential bicycle parking spaces, as required by Chapter 14, Article 2, Division 5, must have individual outlets for electric charging. This requirement aims to facilitate electric bicycle usage and support sustainable transportation practices within the city. The amendment underscores the city's commitment to promoting alternative modes of transportation and reducing carbon emissions. It ensures that future developments include infrastructure to accommodate electric bicycles, aligning with broader environmental and mobility goals.
