This indicator tracks San Diego's annual greenhouse gas emissions from homes and buildings. These emissions come from two sources: burning natural gas for heating and cooking, and consuming electricity to power lights, appliances, and systems throughout the city. Emissions reductions will come from transitioning away from natural gas toward electric appliances and systems, and ensuring that electricity comes from clean, renewable sources.
IMPORTANT: While the chart shows targets for 2030 and 2035 (green circles), these are illustrative projections, not formal commitments. The City's official climate targets are for total citywide emissions reductions, not for any individual sector.
