Official description

Conduct a new Urban Tree Canopy assessment utilizing light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology to identify areas in need of additional tree canopy.
(Full action name in the CAP)

Description

The previous assessment of San Diego's tree canopy was conducted in 2014. An updated assessment is needed both to track the City's progress toward its canopy goal and also to determine the best planting sites for additional trees. New LiDAR* scan data was collected in 2021; the City is currently securing funding to complete the analysis of this data.

See the storymap showing the previous tree canopy assessment, including a link to download the data here: Our Urban Canopy
